As some time has passed since the Heartseekers were released, I will now post them for others to see.
These dragons are the 2012 Valentine's Day release for Dragon Cave. The standard coloration is the bright red on the top row, while the wine-colored dragons below are unique to my scroll.
These dragons were inspired by satiny red Valentine chocolate boxes. Yes, I love chocolate!
A bit more information about the species:
As mentioned in their description - Heartseekers are very social. Other dragons are attracted to their scent, so they are usually the life of the party, so to speak. Despite their muscular physique, they are quite soft-hearted and sensitive under their tough-looking exterior.
In addition to other dragons, prey is often attracted to a Heartseeker's scent, making hunting easier both for him and other dragons in the area. The scent can be detrimental as it may also attract predators. However, a Heartseeker is physically strong enough to deter most threats through brute force if necessary, in addition to potentially having a posse of other dragons protecting him.
The Heartseeker's unique scent comes from a musky liquid excreted from glands on his back, near the spines of his fins. Much like a preening bird, the Heartseeker rubs this liquid all over his fins during routine grooming sessions, replenishing anything lost if he has left scent trails. Scent trails usually fade after a few days, but they will disappear faster in the rain.
When a Heartseeker meets a new dragon, he uses his keen sense of smell to find their den. If the dragon lives alone, and no other dragon scents are nearby, he will conclude that the dragon likely does not have a mate. Using a musky scent trail, he will often lead two mate-less dragons to each other. However, this does not guarantee they will get along.
Each Heartseeker's scent is a little different, which helps them identify each other. They tend to avoid each other, as other creatures may not be able to tell their scents apart. This would potentially cause confusion if two Heartseekers crossed paths while leading dragons to meet each other.
I guess the first is why are they male only? not that I mind since Tik-Tok and Frogleap are fine as males, and it's easier to name breed onlys, but yet why?
To my knowledge the only exception to this rule is the Holly Dragon (Christmas 2007). The original CB's were male-only, but bred Hollies could be either gender. In addition, I think people who chose a CB Holly as a tree decorating or raffle prize were allowed to choose a female as well.
I do notice the Halloween dragons don't have this rule (though I am kind of glad, I want to try for a male Black Marrow and a female Pumpkin). I don't mean the two only, but just the genders.
Some of them do seem like they could or should be one gender.
They also have the Horse Dragon, which apparently you did as well.
Thanks for letting me know.

I just really wanted to post here and say that I've loved both holiday dragons you've had released (and some other dragons you've contributed to but haven't been released yet). <3 The bodies of the ribbon dancers and heartseekers are beautiful! Really love the spriting stuff you do for DC - you're easily one of my most noticed spriters whenever I'm looking at the completed section and all. :3
I must confess that I share the same sentiment of ChangeOfHeart2 though. xP The regular Heartseeker is gorgeous but your personal ones are stunning! So are your ribbon dancers.
I love these guys so much. Thanks for designing them!
I didn't really have a specific design in mind. I just started sketching and (finally) came up with something I liked!
